CHARACTER 64 // THE CHINESE LANTERN MAKER
Mei Lin
An artist and maker from Shanghai: poised, sharp, amused and exacting.
Tradition or identity: Chinese. Background: Shanghai.
Warm beige skin and a straight black bob; a deep red contemporary jacket with clean lines and the fabric closures of traditional dress, black trousers, fine gold cuff embroidery (no invented writing).
A comic showman built from one description, not a spokesperson for a nation, faith or people. National colours and symbols appear only where the founder specified them, drawn accurately and deliberately, never as shorthand for everyone who shares the identity.
Mei Lin is one of 144 characters in the DEFROST.WORLD cast.
