A weekly engagement update for NCPC containing the earliest summary in this release of the 4 June briefing to Dr. Fauci, forwarded on with a warning that a follow-on meeting was likely.
The entry reads: "4 June: Briefing for Dr. Anthony Fauci on COVID Origins" — officers met the Chief Medical Advisor to the President and Director of NIAID to present their analysis on origins and their approach to the intelligence question.
Fauci expressed concern about Beijing’s quick and thorough cleaning of the Wuhan wet market, which may have destroyed clues relating to the pandemic’s origin.
He did not find it alerting that China had not yet found evidence of zoonotic transmission or an intermediate animal host.
He was particularly interested in the specific details provided on the research WIV was doing and on their work with pangolins.
The cover note, sent 12:49 pm, warns: "there’s likely going to be a follow-on to that Fauci briefing adding the NIC and we may get pulled into it."
