BUDDHISM

The Cariyāpiṭaka

Thirty-five short poems on the previous lives of the Buddha, each set out as an example of one of the perfections — giving, virtue, renunciation, truth and the rest — and told in the first person.

The Cariyāpiṭaka runs to 35 conducts, 1,477 verses. The whole of it is held here and free to read, searchable by reference or by the words in it.

The edition held here is Sujato (2021) (2021), in English, released to the public domain under CC0, from SuttaCentral.

It sits on the estate's shelf of 106 sacred works, beside the complete Douay-Rheims Bible, an atlas of the places named in scripture, a timeline and a genealogy.
